Advertising according to dictionary.com is "the act or practice of calling public attention to one's product, service, need, etc., esp. by paid announcements in newspapers and magazines, over radio or television, on billboards, etc." Now maybe it is just me but to call attention to someone you must be loud at times to grab their attention. Many of you may have heard that there is a bill on President Obama's desk waiting to be signed to regulate the volume on televising commercials. This bill came to be because U.S. Rep. Ann G. Eshoo (D-California, 14th) would get annoyed by how the volume would increase when a commercial would come on television during one of her shows. Now I did not create this blog to talk politics but I have to say that this is crazy, and the fact that other Senators and Congressmen have backed this is absurd. I say this is crazy and absurd because the people we place in office should not be writing bills and passing bills because they are annoyed with something or someone. I thought the government’s job was to serve and protect our freedom so that we can pursue life, liberty, and happiness.
In reality is this bill a huge problem... no its not, but it’s more so the fact that Congresswoman Eshoo created a bill because of her personal and shear annoyance of commercial volumes. I guess my question to Eshoo and Congress is this; you have spent 2 years on this bill while unemployment has been over 9% for more than 19 months now, bailouts that cost the taxpaying citizens trillions of dollars have not helped this country unless you’re in Washington, the housing market is in the gutter, we are fighting a two front war, (and posibably a 3 front war if Mexico does not get their act together)more and more people are turning to the government for help because of the economy, which only puts more pressure on the people who are capable of paying taxes, corruption is more ramped in Washington D.C. than in Chicago right now; so why do you find concentrating on a bill such as making sure the volume levels on commercial are lower instead of these other pressing issues to be okay? Is it because Washington D.C. is not hurting like the rest of America? The housing market there is thriving, but I mean we have increased the number of government employees there. It has one of the lowest rate of unemployed persons per-capita, maybe because the last thing anyone in Washington wants to do is get rid of jobs that are unnecessary (like a personal coffee runner for instance). But I guess if Congress is annoyed by something they should be able to write a bill and get it passed so they do not have to be so annoye right?
I will have to say yes it is annoying to be watching a show on T.V. that then goes to commercial and the commercial be so loud that you are stunned to a point where your mind goes blank on how to mute or turn down the volume. But where does this line that Congress is at stop. Soon you will have them writing bills about people not being able to ride a bike in the street because it slows down traffic, or skateboarders not allowed to skate down a sidewalk, or whatever else people get annoyed about. It’s not the bill that is bothersome it’s the reason why or how this bill got put into play. You give a mouse a cookie, he will ask for a glass of milk. Congress is a mouse that we the people gave a cookie to.
The Bill was originally H.R. 6209, which is not H.R. 1084. Also know "Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act" as if you are seeking more information about this bill you can go to http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.1084:
